Spoons
Nalobi Zrobe’s second EP Spoons features the modified percussion of spoons as it’s leading instrument. Spoons are the only singular source of sound, that the Ukrainian composer transforms using Ableton wavetable, granular synthesis and the resampling of original material. The result is a grasp into a universe where objects sing, breathe and expand as the listener travels alongside in loops, collapses and different rhythms.
Nalobi Zrobe creates an environment where a myriad of ambient and trembling sounds form a balanced transcendental experience. The resulting 4 tracks feature drone and textured bio patterns alongside vibrating electronics.
Spoons is a musical poem for reestablishing the relationship with the artist’s equipment from passive consumption to active collaboration. By using only spoons as a sound source, the artist deconstructs his creative environment, surrenders control and opens himself to the possibilities of single sound sequences. It is a return to the artist’s need to investigate the nature of sounds around him, to study them, and search for a universe where sounds can exist without human-made projections of importance and beauty.
